Modo Yoga announced a significant expansion across Canada, including an area development agreement for eight new studios in Alberta, the opening of its 50th North American location in Oakville, Ontario, and a new studio planned for Toronto’s Southern York Region. These developments mark one of the largest growth weeks in the company’s history as it moves toward its goal of reaching 100 North American locations by 2030.
"This is exactly the kind of growth we set out to build — disciplined, community-rooted, and led by people who already live our mission," said Emily Drouillard, Chief Executive Officer of Modo Yoga. "Three new markets in one week isn’t about speed for its own sake. It’s proof that the right operators, in the right communities, can scale this brand the way it deserves to be scaled."
Alberta Expansion: Largest Single-Market Agreement
Modo Yoga has finalized an area development agreement for eight new studios across Alberta, to be opened in phases over the next four years. The phased rollout will begin in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta’s two largest urban centers, before expanding to additional communities within the province. These new studios will join the existing Modo Yoga Sherwood Park location, which has provided the brand with an established foothold in Alberta. The agreement was awarded to a multi-unit franchise development group with a proven track record, and represents Modo Yoga’s largest single-market development commitment to date.
For Modo Yoga, Alberta represents a region where the brand’s core values and business model are expected to resonate strongly. The province’s health-conscious and community-driven population aligns with Modo Yoga’s approach to accessible and sustainable wellness. "Alberta is exactly the kind of market where the Modo Yoga model thrives — health-conscious, community-driven, and hungry for a premium studio experience," Drouillard said. "Awarding eight studios to a single, proven development partner lets us grow with discipline and consistency, so every new Modo Yoga studio in the province opens to the same standard our members expect." The new studios will offer more residents across Alberta access to Modo Yoga’s signature hot yoga classes and community-focused environment.
Oakville: 50th North American Location
The company is also opening a new studio in Oakville, Ontario, marking its 50th location across North America. The Oakville studio will be led by Amneeta and Jasneet, a husband-and-wife team who are experienced Modo Yoga franchisees. Their experience in operating successful studios within the Modo Yoga network positions them to bring the brand’s mission and values to Oakville. The studio is expected to open in early 2027, providing the Oakville community with a new space for hot yoga and wellness.
"Reaching our 50th location is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of, but what excites me most is how we’re getting there," Drouillard said. "We’re growing with owners who are already living our mission and values. Oakville is in exceptional hands." This milestone reflects Modo Yoga’s steady growth and commitment to expanding its reach through partnerships with dedicated franchisees who share its vision.
Toronto’s Southern York Region: New Local Ownership
Modo Yoga will also open a new studio in Toronto’s Southern York Region, scheduled for Spring 2027. The studio will be locally owned and operated by a sister-and-brother team, one an IT consultant and the other an engineer and MBA graduate with extensive experience in yoga and fitness instruction across North America. Their background in both business and yoga instruction is expected to help foster a welcoming and supportive studio environment for local residents.
"Yoga has been a meaningful part of our lives, and we wanted to create a space where people feel stronger, healthier, and more connected — not just on the mat, but in everyday life," the studio’s owners said. "We chose Modo because its values of community, sustainability, inclusivity, and mindful living genuinely resonate with us." The new location will provide a dedicated space for community members to practice yoga and connect with others who share similar values.
Strategy for Sustainable Growth
Modo Yoga’s expansion strategy focuses on partnering with experienced operators and securing the right real estate, with studios designed around six guiding pillars: Be Healthy, Be Accessible, Be Green, Be Community, Live to Learn, and Be Peace. These pillars guide every aspect of the studio experience, from class offerings to the design of eco-conscious spaces. The company prioritizes multi-unit development agreements and experienced franchisees to ensure consistency and a strong local presence as it scales toward 100 locations by 2030. This approach aims to build a sustainable and resilient network of studios that can serve diverse communities across North America.
Modo Yoga is seeking qualified franchisees and area developers in markets across North America. Prospective partners can learn more on the Modo Yoga franchise opportunities page.
